Deccan Miniature Painting at Pichwai Tradition & Beyond (PTB) represents a significant artistic intervention that blends tradition with innovation. PTB’s creative experiments include the miniaturization and deconstruction of traditional Deccan Pichwais, now rendered on paper due to the challenge of recreating their intricate textures on cloth. This shift not only preserves the aesthetic of old Deccan artworks but also supports traditional miniature artists by providing them employment. These paintings often feature motifs like Krishna, gopis, kadamba trees, and fulsome cows. By reimagining these elements—such as turning dancing trees into central figures—PTB breathes new life into the Deccan Miniature Painting tradition, with delicate, gold-accented works as small as six inches becoming visual treasures.
